Pros and (Faux) Cons

Okay, decision time.

PROS
$16.99 at Payless.
Cute classic look.
Neutral color.
Fur trim!

CONS
Not actual Chuck Taylors.
Faux suede might suck.
Probably not fully fur-lined.

DECISION
Pass. Not for me, but maybe for lovers of very skinny jeans and the teenaged out there?

No, I'm sorry, I MUST HAVE THESE.
Who cares if they're Airwalks? I think they're cute! And I have a pair of velvet Chucks that've held up really well, so no worries about fake suede.

LOL at “CONs: not actual Chuck Taylors.” Funny about 4 different ways (not least the pun). I love how Chucks are understood as super authentic and real, when actually? When we buy Chucks, we are POSERS. There! I said it! They're basketball shoes that nobody wears to play basketball. We buy them for the nonconformist punk vibe— a vibe they got simply because they were cheap enough for poor punk kids to afford. Now we're at a place where $145 silver-plated Chucks from Saks Fifth Avenue make perfect sense (note the oldskool styling for max authenticity), and $17 "fake Chucks" from Payless are unbearably lame. It's a bit crazy, no?

[BTW, I'm not ragging; I'm right there too. I f'n love Chucks (and oldskool Airwalks, for that matter) and probably own about 9 pairs. So... yeah. It's just funny.]
