Oh yes, they did. Toms had a perfectly good, supercute in fact, basic canvas shoe. It's perfect for summer, easy to slip on with dresses or shorts or pretty much any weekend wear. And yet they HAD to go and mess with it!
Tom's Yello Calypso canvas wedge, $69. This is basically a new version of the sneaker pump: Never a good idea! Not to mention the average Toms fan is just not going to be down with this. Comfort is key. And does this mean poor children get a free pair of wedges for every one you buy? I sure hope not.
Even though I only own the silver glitter version, my pick is still the classic, preferably in a dark color.
Tom's Ash Canvas Classic, $44.

ooooh, they are so cute!
I like the wedge much better. I never liked the original. Good cause, unappealing design.
Oh no. You see, Toms didn't go into business to make shoes. That's simply not what they do. They're in business to make money, to give shoeless people shoes! People don't buy Toms because they're cute, but because they're better than other slip-ons, and they're only better because when you wear Toms you're telling the world that you're a good samaritan and kind of hip (but leaning toward yuppie.) The only thing that makes these shoes appealing to some is because they're damn canvas espadrilles. Who doesn't like those? Shame on you Toms, you sellouts.
I'm late to this discussion but I bought the wedge in black and it is so comfortable and I get so many looks of jealousy! It's brills! Yes! And, fine, I'm a hipster yuppie. So f me. I like the shoe and I'm standing by it (on it). Thanks for listening!
