Target Goes Bridal

I'm now convinced there's absolutely nothing Target can't do. It is my hope that someday, their offerings will be so comprehensive that pregnant women will even be able to give birth there. There should be a Target lending library. Target University. Even a Target dental clinic. Sure it's a little "I Heart Huckabees," but the difference is, that movie basically sucked, and Target basically does not.

Anyway, as you possibly know, as it isn't exactly BREAKING news, Targs now carries Isaac Mizrachi designed bridal gowns. Actually it's just Target.com, but let's not split hairs, eh? Anyway, the dresses are totally not bad whatsoever -- nearly identical to the stuff you'd find at David's Bridal and other chain bridal stores -- especially if you're into very classic styles. And I know: I've never been a bride, so yeah, it's probably easy for me to "say" that buying a dress at Target could be cool. And I KNOW that being one SOMETIMES causes otherwise reasonable women to start acting like brides of Frankenstein. And of course I'd like to think I wouldn't be a total 'Zilla. Because it really is fucked up that women are told that we should spend on one day, about the same amount of money that we'd spend on ourselves in a year. If I WERE a bride, I think that looking a.) hot and b.) like I'm wearing something that represented my personality (see a.) would be more important than plunking down $5,000 on ONE dress that I'll wear (and, let's be reasonable... most likely spill wine on) for like five hours. I know women who've spent $99 on a dress from a bridal store in the mall, and they've looked OUTSTANDING. People are going to remember that you (hopefully) looked beautiful. Not that you spent what could part of a down payment on a home in some parts of the country on your dress.

Anyway, that's why I think it's great that Targs is selling bridal gowns. Sure, other people are going to own the same dress as you, but are you getting married THE SAME time, at the SAME place as that person? Probably not, unless you are a woman marrying another woman and you DELIBERATELY picked out the same dress, in which case, more power to you. I say, if the dress fits, wear it. Especially if it's about nine times less than your average wedding dress.

Observe:

($159, Target.com)
My fave.

($159, Target.com)
A bit too bland for my tastes, but a lovely dress regardless.

($89, Target.com)
This could be really nice for an evening wedding.

($49, Target.com)
Very cute too, but the reviews are negative. It's from the bridesmaids collection, which isn't bad but seems more like a bunch of dresses they just stuck a "bridesmaids" label on. Whatevs.

($19, Target.com)
A surprisingly cute wedding shoe!

($29, Target.com)
This one's all about the heel. I hate those stumpy little square heels that seem to afflict so many bridal shoes.

($34, Target.com)
Nice. TRES Madonna circa the "Boy Toy" era... And you can dance...

($16, Target.com)
... For inspiration...

($16, Target.com)
... I'm waaaiiiting...

($39, Target.com)
I think I'm most fond of the fact that they have $40 sashes in seven different colors.

So, speaking of weddings, Disney also has a line of McDresses out. I hate to say it, because I absolutely LOATHE Disney, but the dresses truly aren't that bad. Probably because they got a pro to design them. If you didn't KNOW they were Disney, you probably wouldn't be auto-mortsed. Here are a few that actually aren't totally vomit-inducing. Oh yeah, and they're "inspired" by Disney pwetty pwetty pwincesses, so YOU! TOO! can be a pwetty pwincess, which is TOTALLY vomit-inducing.

The Jasmine..... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!

The Snow White. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

But they can't all be Disney winners, as Go.com taught us.

The Cinderella. Ouch.

Disney already does a good enough job of pouring shite into the brains of young girls. It's really painful to think of women forking over thousands of dollars for the privilege of being Disney-branded bride. I really hope no one reading this felt/ feels compelled to do so. That said, if they made these in adult sizes I might rethink my stance.

And don't even get me started on the people who actually GET MARRIED at the Magic Kingdom. Something tells me they don't exactly look like this couple from the ad:

They probably look more like this:

And make their "FI"s wear shit like this:

You know this chick probably did.

Weep.

LeSportsac Sample Sale -- Apparently Sucky, Target Bodegas, Not Much Better, IMO

Hi guys. I'm back! Still recovering from my LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG-ass trip to L.A. for the MTV VMAs, chasing Jonas Brothers and Tokio Hotel. It was an amazing and TIRING experience (like three - four hours of sleep per night but worth all the exhaustion), and I missed almost every second of Fashion Week. And seriously, it was SO hard for me to tell Marc Jacobs that I couldn't make it to his show. He almost cancelled it on my account, but I was like NO! Marc, girl, you look AMAZING, you're in LOVE, you're all fin de siècle ON DAT ASS with the elevated runway... you PULL YOURSELF UP BY THE GRUNGEY DOC BOOTSTRAPS AND YOU GET OUT THERE AND YOU SHOW THE WORLD YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BREAK THROUGH, MARC JACOBS! So he did it! I was stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel -- by the way I NO LONGER recommend that place because they're phasing out their Fresh products!!!!! I know! And their customer service is pretty crappy, and the carpets are dirty, and they have that dumb thing where the showers only have half a glass wall instead of a whole wall or at least a fucking shower curtain, so the entire bathroom floor gets soaked. And I assure you, I'm not even a hotel snob. Or at least I wasn't until I stayed there.

But speaking of Fresh, their Sugar Lemon Body Lotion, which I use as a facial moisturizier because it's too dear to use all over, is the best thing that's ever happened to my face:
($28, Fresh, Sephora)

Anyway, I did get back to NYC in time to attend the Target Bodega launch -- Target's popped up four Bullseye Bodega stores from September 13 - 15, packed with products that won't hit regular Target stores for another 45 days. (Locations here.)

I gotta be honest -- the design was the coolest part of it:Target wallpaper...

But the products were meh. With the exception, however, of the beauty products -- The 'Jay's totes stepped it up, and their new capsule beauty products have more of a Sephora feel. Napoleon Perdis products -- I freaked the fuck out over their mascara last month, and my love has only increased -- are there as are Jemma Kidd. However the Jonathan Saunders clothing felt and looked really cheap to me. More Jonathan Martin than Jonathan Saunders. Like they'd already been washed. Yuks. The Converse stuff was zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

And some of the seasonal housewares felt like dollar store crap (roosters and turkeys? really?). The Michael Graves housewares and kitchen gear was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary there.

But by far the best thing going at the Target bodega was the Sigerson Morrison shoes -- real suede for under $40. Observe:
(Photo: Nitrolicious)
Great, great fun holiday shoes that remind me of the fun embellished "9 West" (from back when they were "9" and not "Nine") pumps my mom had from the early '80s. I also loved these:

Yet I bought none because I've bought about 432 pairs of shoes lately. Must show SOME restraint, people! Apparently the Sigerson Morrison shoes will be in select Targets October 12 and online around then too.

Oh yeah, we also saw Jerry Seinfeld and wifey at the party! Random! And I ran into an old friend, Mark Van Holden, who was shooting the event, which is the only reason me and my boyfriend got our photo snapped:

You know, because paps just follow us EVERYWHERE! I'd also like to point out the sad irony of popping up a store made to look like a bodega in areas of New York where bodegas can't even afford to stay in business. But, I love Target, and I'm a fucking hippocrite. Anyway, point is, the party was fun, but I really don't think that you need to rush out and hit up the Bullseye Bodegas. Seriously. If you miss it, you miss it. And that's coming from someone who lurves Target.

Anyway, I almost hit up the LeSportsac sample sale, but Racked's report that it was Le Sucksack prevented me from a'wastin' my times yesterday on my quasi-day-off. Thanks, guys! I'd just as soon stay home and buy this cuters mcghee bag off Karmaloop:
($88, LeSportsac, Karmaloop)
Tons of promo codes here. Also, that model's eyes are bugging me out.

Here's a photo of some Hollywood Boulevard "fashions" for you to consider. Bye for now! Much more to come but I gotta go to the gym and read about Obama to undo all the hurt I did from filling my body with avocado and bacon cheeseburgers (like the good Jewish girl I am) and time spent away from the CNN.

Loeffler Randall: Right On Target

The other day I done toldj'all about the Loeffler-Randall Target collabo. Now, some pix:

Not bad at all, right? That ballet flat looks like a great staple shoe.

More good shit from Target:
($29, Target)
I've seen these front-slash booties everywhere, including Payless. I'm not sure if I'm lovin' them for me personally, though they do seem like they'd go a long way (har) toward elongated the leggs of sho-tayze like myself. But regardless, I'm stoked Target's got 'em. They come in purple too, which is tres Prince.

($29, Isaac Mizrahi, Target)
I'm also into these, at least in theory. There's something fun about tortoiseshell, though I have no clue why.

($19, Target)
Again, while I wouldn't wear these, I love the idea of them, though I'd love 'em more without the unnecessary ruching. Kthanksbye!

Cute Spring Things + Rogan For Target

Springy things you should buy... some of which I have bought!

($115, Casch Copenhagen, ActiveEndeavors.com)
Sporty but femme but not SUPER boring either. Wee!

($69, Shoes for Lovely People, Modcloth.com)
If these Shoes For Lovely People flats from my beloved Mod Cloth aren't the absolute embodiment of spring, then I certain just do not know what is.

($34, Steve Madden)
Bought these Steve Madden "Skiip" cut out flats on super sale in-store the other day. Also got them in black. Since I'm vehemently opposed to flip-flops and most sandals, these will make a great alternative and a nice change of pace to when I get temporarily sick of ballet flats.

($40, Stila, Sephora)
True, the topic is SPRING products, and this is Stila's Summer Eye Shadow Palette, but I can't help getting ahead of myself when faced with the "Sun" shade -- the peachy one at the far right. NEED!!!

($11, I'm Your Present, Etsy)
Girlie-kitsch Etsy seller I'm Your Present always has the raddest shit ever, like these vintage unicorn earrings. And if they're all sold out, it's because I just bought this pair from her the other week, and they're even better in real life. So, sorry suckahs! But do check out her other stuff too.

($44.99, Rogan for Target)
Ooh, so I went to the Rogan for Target media event at Barney's the other night. Like the collaboration itself, it was... weird. I mean... it's Target stuff... at Barney's... (more on that weirdness at WWD), and aside from the few animal graphic t-shirts that looked like H&M fare
and other animal print stuff that I didn't love, there were some good, basic safari-style pieces, and some simple yet sophisticated bits, like the plaid linen jumper above. I didn't get that, but I did get the plaid linen top:

($26, Rogan for Target)
Oh, and I saw Gregory Rogan at the event. He was cute. Fashionindie has an interview with him. And I saw Waris Ahluwalia and Simon Doonan, who could fit in the above model's pocket. And Diane Kruger, who's very goddesslike, if she's your idea of a goddess. Some other famous, skinny, and famous and skinny people who I didn't recognize were there too.

The eco-friendly collection hits almost all Target stores May 18. Go stock up on the loose, highly layerable tanks, like so:

My Quickie 'Mad Men' Purchases From Target!

I popped into Targz when I was home the other week (and by the way, I must say, the Hilltop Virginia Beach Target was spifftacular to begin with, but with its recent facelift, it's even nicer!), and I picked up a few items to hopefully make my outfy more formal-looking when I attend a wedding this Sunday (at Steiner Studios!), which I just found out is formal. EEk!

Firstly, I'm wearing this Christopher Deane dress:
($163, Christopher Deane, Revolveclothing.com)
The dress is much more fanco-lookin' in person -- silky and pretty pretty. But I still fear it's not necessarily formal attire, you know? So, these are the Target items I hope to fance it up a bit with. They sorta Mad Men-inspired (Mad Men being my second biggest style obsession next to peacocks!), but hopefully not TOO costumey.

Impulse buy of the CENTURY, but it's certainly beautiful and certainly worth the price. From the VERY same Anya Hindmarch line that MkHo DISPARAGED!

($44.99, Mossimo, Target)
Usually I DON'T advocate the tenty swing jacket for myself at least, but this one has a cute little cinched waist, and it's a nice heavy wool, for in case it's Arctic out, like it is tonight.

($21.99, Target)
These are far daintier and cuter in person.

ALSO, I've got an appointment to get mah hairs all did up nice by Matthew James at Sam Brocato Salon (formerly Oscar Bond) in Soho. The doll-faced Amber at Beauty Blogging Junkie has gushed like a volcano over this man, so I can't wait to see what he achieves with my hair.

Hopefully the whole look isn't too costumey -- the jacket and gloves are just for transporational purposes. It's just mainly going to be the dress, the bag, and the fun hair. Not like I'm gonna roll in smoking a cigarette from a long holder, and wearing a pill box hat, waving like Jackie O... OR WILL I?

Anyway, thoughts, pleaze? Is the outfit formal enough for a black tie-optional wedding?
