Adidas x Opening Ceremony Rod Laver Striped Hi Top Sneakers: Gone, But Not Forgotten

+ UPDATE: Urban Outfitters has the Adidas x Opening Ceremony Rod Laver sneakers in WOMEN'S sizes! 10% off with promo code "WACKSLACKS." DONE! Thank you, Based God! +
$175, Opening Ceremony x Adidas Rod Laver Hi tops, Urban Outfitters
When will I learn that spending two months deliberating in a most Woody Allen of fashions whether or not to buy a limited edition pair of sneakers will almost always result in a frantic demon drop down the rabbit hole/ Baby Jessica well of the deepest depths of online destinations and shoe store phone calls, only to discover there's no light at the end of the tunnel, and the the Adidas x Opening Ceremony Ron Laver striped hi tops are sold out. I have the opposite of FOMO. I have ToMO -- Totally Missed out. If you or someone you love know where to find a men's size 6, hollar at a Jew. By the way, the girl at Opening Ceremony was a total doll and called both New York stores to see if there were any in stock. The girl at the Adidas Originals store, was, sadly a besnatch.

If you need me, I'll be consoling myself with my $2.99 CVS avocado deep conditioning treatment.

I Miss You Like The Deserts Miss The Rains

Hello from the Hyatt New Brunswick. (West Brunswick? East? I don't know. Also, why are there that many Brunswicks? One's really enough.) Oddly, the room service is quite good here.

My SINCEREST apologies for the delay in blogging. It's NOT because I'm mad at you or anything. What? You heard I was mad at you? WHO told you that? That's SO not even true? Ew. Don't believe anything she says. Come on. She's an idiot. I would NEVER.

Seriously. I miss you! I miss our talks! I've been traveling like a BAWSSE. First I was in Palm Springs taking in all of the angular mid-century modern architecture and Googie signs and enjoying NOT WORKING for a few days. Then I came back to work, endured the resultant shitstorm as one does when they're out of the office and Outlook is like OH HELL NAW when you try to make some semblance of sense of the gravitas of the gravity of your inbox, and then I turned around and went to New Jersey for Bamboozle. (SHUT UP. IT'S FOR WORK.) Which explains the Brunswick.

Anyway, this is a blog about SHOPPING, so let me quickly share that I got a pair of Nike x Liberty of London Dunk Sky Hi platform wedge hi-top sneakers, and HOLY SHIT, they're the best things I threw a honit and twenty at in a minute.

$130, Nike, Nordstrom
These things corner like they're on rails.

Next thing I don't regret buying at all -- the apotheosis of the best-ever boyfriend jeans: Current/ Elliott's Boyfriend Jeans. Best fit, best slouch, and best of all, I sized about three sizes down. Thanks, C/E, for that body image shot in the arm.

$206, Current/ Elliott/ Shopbop.com
Okay. More blogging soon, I assure you so can sleep well tonight. INCREDIBLE tinted moisturizer with a cruiseship-sized boatload of SPF, gorgeous geode jewelry and other fun finds. But I REALLY must shower and wash the power pop off of me. And the Jersey. (No offense.)

Coach Spring 2012 Preview

Coach's Spring 2012 forecast: fun, whimsical designs that prove that classic doesn't have to be safe. "I would just NEVAH do a white bag"? You thought that, right? But check out this white woven/ whipstitched carryall. THAT'S how you do an everyday white bag without looking like you belong to a yacht club or you're smuggling Easter eggs. It's all in the texture and hardware. Oh, you're into that terrific teal? Good, because that makes two of us. And those nude patent peep-toe stilettos are exactly what to wear with navy, orange, and every neon ever.

Don't think. Just put on the red, white and blue Coach hi-top sneaker.
Jelly watches? They never get old.

Puma's Going MONOCHROME, Man. MONOCHROME

I was just having a regular day today until... I received a mass email from Puma and shit got real. They just released their new Monochrome line, and it's kind of major (although I wished someone called me to ask which colors I'd prefer but... the yellow will do). It's seriously all monochrome everything, and clearly I need to own everything from every colorway.

Hippity Hop -- Roos Return!

Anyone remember KangaRoos shoes? As in Roos? With the little secret pocket? SURELY you had a pair of the Velcro ones with the little zippy pocket back in the day? (I did. I think they were suede fuchsia... or maybe I'm thinking of my Punk Brewster sneakers, which were EVERY color, including fuschia.) Currently, these are some of my very favorite sneakers -- Roos Full Court hi-tops. Do NOT even LOL. Or whatever, LOL all you want, but they're extremely comfy and they look great with skinny jeans and a longer tee. Seriously. They're about $69 at Zappos, but for some reason, I can't find them on Zappos at this moment in our lives. Will research and report back in kind. UPDATE: Zappos should have them April 1st! Until then, check them out on the Norwegian Kangaroos site, so you at least know they do exist and that I didn't make them up. But if you have any sneaker streak in you, get these. I've already run through one pair and may need to reup. You should too.

And check out SneakerFreaker for info on KangaRoos' Walter Payton-inspired hi-tops.

Classickicks Era Vans For Spring!

If you're a true sneaker freaker, then you know that these Vans aren't new x2. They're part of Soho boutique Classic Kicks' (298 Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10012/ 212.979 9514) joint effort with Vans to resurrect the line's Era sneakers from the late '70s. They came out in the summer of 2008, but they're still available in men's and women's sizes for $65, and their classic Crayola colors make them perfect for this early springy weather.

Flea Finds Fo Fun!

Get it? Fe Fi Fo Fum! Okay, it wasn't really that funny... I happily spent early Sunday doing some low-cost shopping, which was especially exciting because thrift stores are pretty much a non-entity in NYC, and this was the closest I've come to that in a while. Here's what I came back with from the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary Tag Sale in Williamsburg:

Vintage Sasson cotton jacket. It's missing one of the epaulets on the shoulder, so I just removed the other one, and we're good. It's enjoying some much-needed time at the dry cleaner's, which will cost more than the amount I paid for it -- $6! And that $6 goes to help kitties and puppies and goats! Wee!
And speaking of Sasson, check out these sick-ass boots on eBay.

And I got these totally wack, completely unnecessary 1970s trivets for $5 total. Appropriately, they say "Hot." You can practically hear a porned-out disco beat radiating out of the repeating waves of "hot."
Of course, someone had to get a whiff of decades past.

And because it was cheaper than a coffee, I got this Etienne Aigner pin set. They're like tie tacks. Weird. What will I do with it? Probably nothing, but it was $3. And speaking of coffee, I got an iced coffee at El Beit up the street on Bedford, and it was absolutely repulsive. Worst. I'd never been before. The Yelpers seem to like it, so maybe it was just an off day?

Over at Beacon's Closet, some of my used items ACTUALLY PASSED hipster muster, and I cashed in my store credit for these limited-edition Ice Cream sneaks, which I found in the men's section, but they're like a women's size 7. You should've seen my boyfriend's face when I brought them home -- he looked like I'd brought home a headless chicken. His disdain only made me like them MORE. They're really cute, and I will PROVE THAT TO HIM. Oh, they were like $21.

With the $5 credit I had left, I got these reeeedangdonkulous vintage plastic earrings:
Yay! Total cost was about $16 for all of the above, since I had store credit for my consigned stuff.

Finally, more shots of Rory -- he always seems to have his bad little head down when I take photos, but his "uncle" was over, and he was aholdin' him tight, so here are some pix that don't involve him frantically sniffing my new purchases:

Nike McFlys Return to the Future, Finally

Attention sneaker freakers (actually, attention regular peeps, because sneakerheads probably already know this)... Twenty-one years into the future, you can FINALLY wear the once-fictitious Nike dunks Marty McFly made famous in Back to the Future II. The inspired-by sneakers are coming out later this summer and are, inexplicably, going to be repped by Kobe Bryant.

More here, here and here.

Paris Hilton's Inadvertent Argument Against Old-School Wayfarers

Okay. While I still love brightly colored wayfarers, (ThreadTrend's also on board with me) I'll side with those of you on the anti bus after seeing these white wayfarers on Paris. While I love many elements of street style, ON THEIR OWN (hint hint, Paree), the head-to-toe Souja Boy look should be left to, well Soulja Boy.

Speaking of hip-hop style, I just bought these old-school Reebok Freestyle hi-tops to wear with my grey skinny jeans:
($29.97, Reebok, Finish Line)
Why? Well because I own no green metallic hi-tops, of COURSE! Also, I found promo code: 141705, and I saved $3. Hlr!

Sneaker Freaker: Tretorns!

Now that my billion-year-old black Chucks have finally been retired to that great barely biodegradable landfill in the ground, I'm in the market for a new pair of sneaks.

This weekend I saw a pair of Tretorn for Acne Jeans or Acne Jeans for Tretorn or whatever sneakers, and, quite frankly, they were SHIT HOT:

(Photo via Refinery29.com)
The pair I saw was the same style but in black, and they were gorgeous, but the $158 price tag left them sitting right on their pretty little shelf. I still covet tho. Oh, and because, once again, I'm totes late to the game, Refinery29 was all over that shit back in March. Ho well. If yer still interested, you can get them or the hi-top version at Bird in Brooklyn.

So, speaking of old-school Tretorns, I remember I had a pair WAAAAY back in say, middle school, and I remember their inch-plus of cushiness creating a level of comfort that was almost fucking absurd. So, again, seeing as how I'm currently in the market for a new pair of non-mom sneakers, I'm now chasing that first high and going after another Tretorn fix:
($65, Tretorn)
Best, though I wish they had them in a blacker black.

($60, Tretorn)
Basic, comfy, blue. What else do you want?

($75, Tretorn)
OMG. These are ridiculous and hilarious. They're a tribute to favorite Swedish dish toast Skagen. The left represents the "mix," while the right represents the toast. Uhhhh okay. I guess it's like if we had shoes with pizza or burgers on 'em. Curiously, these are only available for men, so does that mean that mainly men like toast skagen? Or only men wear SHOES with toast skagen on them? Who knows. I certainly wouldn't wear them, so perhaps those Swedes are onto something.

($80, Tretorn)
... And via Highsnobiety.com, from whom I lovingly borrowed the above photo, Tretorn and pro-Chloe boutique/line Opening Ceremony (they center the store around a different theme each year, and this year is Sweden) are collaborating on some limited-edition styles. I sorta almost like the middle checkered ones, but still, the black ones are my faves.
